REFUNDS & RETURNS

Thank you for shopping at Lionel Smit Studio!

If there’s a problem with your item (if we’ve made a mistake, or if your order arrives damaged) please try to let us know immediately by emailing shop@lionelsmit.co.za, and we’ll arrange a replacement or refund for you as soon as possible.

Once your item has been delivered to you, you will have 48 hours to inspect your item for any damage or imperfections and notify us at shop@lionelsmit.co.za; please make sure your order number is on this.

From then, our returns policy lasts 7 days. You will have 7 days to courier the item back to us, using a trackable service. Once we receive your item, we will inspect it and either replace it or issue you a refund.

Refunds will only be given for the following reasons

  1. We have sent the wrong item and are not able to exchange it for the correct item and the customer has no desire to exchange the item for any other item from the website.

  2. We are unable to fulfil your order.

  3. The item has arrived damaged or broken and we cannot replace it with a new one.

  4. You have been in touch regarding wanting to see if the piece works in the space/fits you and have notified us within the time frame of returning.

Under no circumstances will commissioned items be refunded or exchanged.  Shipping costs will also not be refunded once your order has been processed.

Late or missing refunds (if applicable)

If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account . Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted. Next contact your bank. There is often some processing time before a refund is posted. If you’ve done all of this and you still have not received your refund yet, please contact us at shop@lionelsmit.co.za.

Sale items (if applicable)

Only regular priced items may be refunded, unfortunately sale items cannot be refunded or returned.

Exchanges (if applicable):

We only replace items if they are defective or damaged. If you need to exchange it for the same item, send us an email at shop@lionelsmit.co.za and send your item to

Non-defective products (your right to return due to cooling-off right)

Save for certain exceptional cases (including purchases of made-to-order products, products likely to deteriorate, beverages, goods for everyday consumption, goods that the price depends on fluctuation, books and periodicals, you are entitled to return any purchase concluded by Lionel Smit Studio within 7 calendar days of the product(s) being delivered. In order to obtain a purchase price refund, the product(s) being returned must be sent back to Lionel Smit Studio in accordance with the return procedure set out below. 

Consequently, if upon receiving your purchase you are not satisfied with your choice of product(s) and wish to return it for a refund as aforesaid, please retain the product(s)’ original packaging and do not use product. 

If the incorrect product is delivered to you by mistake (i.e. it is not the product you purchased), please do not remove the product from its original packaging or try the product on at all. Please promptly contact Lionel Smit Studio to notify Lionel Smit Studio thereof, so that we can resolve the mistake by arranging to collect such product from you and deliver the correct product to you as quickly as possible. 

Defective products

General warranty

If, within 6 months after delivery of a product to you: 

You find that the product(s) is defective and you arrange to return such product to Lionel Smit Studio for inspection in accordance with the returns procedure in below, and the product is subsequently found to indeed be defective, you are entitled to either –

(a) be fully refunded, or (b) have the product repaired or replaced at Lionel Smit Studio expense.

If the product is found NOT to be defective, you will NOT be entitled to any repair, replacement or refund but will instead be liable for the costs incurred in having such product returned to Lionel Smit Studio and then redelivered to you.

When is a product defective?

Please note: the following are examples of things which will NOT be regarded as defects and will NOT entitle you to any repair, replacement or refund under the general warranty above: faults resulting from normal wear and tear; damage arising from incorrect usage of the product, misuse and abuse and not following instructions of the product.

Exclusions

You may not under any circumstances return the following:

Non-defective products that have been "made to order". (You will be notified in the relevant Online Sale if the products are "made to order".)

Products that you or any other person has altered, repaired, incorporated or added to where such alteration, repair, or addition has not been authorised by Lionel Smit Studio.

How to return shop products

If you’d like to return all or part of your order, please contact Lionel Smit Studio by e-mail to shop@lionelsmit.co.za and specify the following:

  • The reason for the return;

  • the date the product(s) was bought and the date the product(s) was delivered including a reference number or proof of purchase;

  • the banking details for the refund (if applicable)

Do not return the product without written approval of Lionel Smit Studio.

You’ll find a slip on the bottom of the delivery note in your parcel. Please include this in the package, and send the items back to us at:

Once we’ve received the item with the return slip, we’ll process your refund, replacement or exchange as quickly as possible. Please make sure you return the item in pristine condition, in its original packaging.

If Lionel Smit Studio accepts the return as a valid return, and you’re owed a refund, we’ll issue this using the same payment details that were used to purchase the items. We aim to process all returns within 1-2 weeks but the refund could take up to an additional 10 working days to show in your account, so please bear with us.
